NICE After-School

Volunteering with NICE

Volunteers are the backbone of our youth programs. The individualized academic and social support that they provide to our students is invaluable. In volunteering with our programs, you will have the opportunity to meet students form all of the world, learn about their cultures, and invest in their futures.

NICE is currently recruiting volunteers to work with our after-school programs, which are run at 3 different sites.

1) Antioch High School
     Mondays and Wednesdays
     2:15pm-5:00pm
The primary responsibility of volunteers at Antioch is to support
students academically. Volunteers will be responsible for
helping a group of 1-3 students complete their homework
assignments for the day. Volunteers will also be asked to work
with students to set goals and plan for their futures after high
school. Volunteers matched with juniors and seniors will focus
a lot of time on helping their students understand and complete
      college application materials.

2) Glencliff High School
      Tuesdays and Thursdays
      2:15pm-5:00pm
The primary responsibility of these volunteers is to support
students academically. Volunteers will be responsible for
helping a group of 1-3 students complete their homework
assignments for the day. Volunteers will also be asked to work
with students to set goals and plan for their futures after high
school. Volunteers matched with juniors and seniors will focus
a lot of time on helping their students understand and complete
      college application materials.

3) McMurray Middle School
      Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays
      4:00pm-6:00pm
For the first hour of the program, volunteers will assist students
with completing their homework and practicing English. For
the second hour, volunteers will assist with facilitating art
enrichment activities. This will include photography, painting,
      drawing, and drumming.

Volunteers can commit to working only one day, multiple days, or even with multiple sites. If interested, follow the 3 simple steps listed on the right of this page to get started!

Steps to Volunteering

Step 1:

Read about our volunteer opportunities and make a selection based on your availability and interests. E-mail Mary Nelle at marynelle@empowernashville.org. Make sure to include the site you are interested in working with and the day(s) you are available to work.

NOTE: To volunteer with a program, it is not necessary to commit to all the days the program is operating. Volunteers can choose to work one day a week, multiple days a week, or even at multiple sites. For example, you can volunteer at Antioch on Mondays or you can volunteer at Glencliff on Tuesdays and McMurray on Wednesdays. Choose what is best for your availability and interest.

Step 2:

Attend a volunteer orientation. Dates and times for orientations will be provided by Mary Nelle after your initial e-mail. During this orientation, you will learn more about program logistics and complete required paperwork, including a background check with the PENCIL foundation.

Step 3:

Once your background check has cleared, you can START :)
